Pitt’s William Jeffress Enters Transfer Portal

PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers have lost a second transfer in as many days this weekend as the 2024 offseason truly gets under way. 

Redshirt junior forward William Jeffress was the latest to leave the program, following starting center Federiko Federiko into the transfer portal after four years at Pitt, the program confirmed this week. 

Jeffress averaged 2.5 points, 2.5 rebounds and 0.9 combined steals and blocks over 16.2 minutes per game with the Panthers. He arrived in 2020 as the highest-rated recruit head coach Jeff Capel had ever signed and struggled to find an offensive game, but earned a reputation as a standout defender. He was instrumental in wins over Wake Forest and West Virginia during the 2023 season with his defense and rebounding. 

Jeffress participated in Senior Day festivities earlier this month during Pitt’s final home game against NC State but Capel said that he had not given any indication that he was considering leaving Pittsburgh. Three weeks later, he is headed elsewhere in the transfer portal. 

The Panthers now have three scholarships open as they begin to hit the transfer portal and fill the gaps in their roster.
